South Carolina has its similarities to their neighbor up north when it comes to barbecuing but the exception is their sauce. South Carolina-styles sauce is made with a mustard base. A popular brand is called Maurice’s Southern Gold. This influence was brought by German immigrants that liked their meat tangy. The sauce is thinned out with some vinegar and spices are added. This tangy, spicy sauce is used on pulled pork and ribs.
